THIS is a fabulous piece! A beautiful item to add to a collection or as an accent piece. And they work perfectly!!!
Perfect for the theatre or a sporting event. This gorgeous pair of opera glasses, an optical work of art, made of brass, cased with gorgeous mother of pearl on the cylinders and eyepieces. It is signed Lemaire FT, Paris on the left lens, along with 2 tiny bees, the company's logo.
* This is a rare pair that has mother of pearl slats covering the ENTIRE body. Most pairs have ONLY the lower portion covered.
- Brass and base metal body. In beautiful condition body-wise, with no cracks or scratches,excellent condition, free from any damage or defects - good solid weight. The condition of these opera glasses is wonderful! Good clear visibility in the lens. The focus works/scrolls smoothly.
The brass is also in excellent vintage condition, with the lovely, soft patina of age. Normal vintage wear to black enamel on lens. There is some wear to the dark paint encircling the lower lenses, with a tiny bit of brass showing through.
This set has beautiful black Mother of Pearl slats that reflects purple, red, green, blue and white, depending on how the light hits them as well as the light source -- very pretty. The mother of pearl slats in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or missing pieces.
Measures over 3+1/2 inches wide, 2+1/8 to 2+7/8 inches long when fully extended.
Background: The French company, was one of the premier opera glass makers of the late xxxx's to early xxxx's. They invented a focusing system that was used worldwide for magnifying tools of every sort: eyeglasses, field glasses, telescopes, microsopes, even opera glasses.
The second logo on the lens is Franklin & Co/ Washington D.C. -- the optical company they were made for. This is a well know optical dealer -- who made Abraham Lincolns glasses.
